Fauna 1992 (Birds)

In the frame of introducing The Indonesian Birds, on 1st July 1992 The Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunication issues a series of special stamps "Fauna 1992" with the following denomination : Rp 100 (Baligoh Putih or Garrulax leucolophus), Rp 200 (Caladi Kuning or Dinopium javanense), Rp 400 (Enggang Danto or Buceros rhiconeros) and Rp 500 (Aryat Ambon or Alisterus amboinensis).
1. Garrulax leucolophus
The White-crested Laughingthrush (Garrulax leucolophus) is a member of the Leiothrichidae family. It is found in forest and scrub from the Himalayan foothills to Indochina. It formerly included the Sumatran Laughingthrush as a subspecies, but unlike that species the plumage of the White-crested Laughingthrush is rufescent-brown and white, and the black mask is relatively broad.
2. Dinopium javanense
The Common Flameback or Common Goldenback (Dinopium javanense) is a species of bird in the Picidae family. It is found in Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Spot-throated Flameback is sometimes considered a subspecies.
3.  Buceros rhiconeros
The Rhinoceros Hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros) is one of the largest hornbills, adults being approximately the size of a swan, 91–122 cm (36–48 in) long and weighing 2–3 kg (4.4–6.6 lbs). The Rhinoceros Hornbill lives in captivity for up to 90 years. It is found in lowland and montane, tropical and subtropical and in the mountain rain forests up to 1,400 m altitude in Borneo, Sumatra, Java, the Malay Peninsula, Singapore and southern Thailand.
4.  Alisterus amboinensis
The Moluccan King Parrot (Alisterus amboinensis) is a parrot that is endemic to Peleng Island, Maluku and West Papua in Indonesia. It is sometimes referred to as the Ambon King Parrot or Amboina King Parrot, but this is potentially misleading, as it is found on numerous other islands than Ambon. The male and female are similar in appearance, with a predominantly red head and underparts, green wings (blue in one subspecies), and blue back and tail. Six subspecies are recognized, but only a few of these are regular in aviculture. In the wild, it inhabits rainforests and feeds on fruits, berries, seeds and buds.
