Butterfly (International Butterfly Conference)

In the frame work of the holding of the International Butterfly Conference on August 24 - 27, 1993 in Ujungpandang, the Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunications of the Republic of Indonesia issues a series of special stamps "Butterfly" with specifications :
  • Date of issue : August 24th, 1993
  • Denomination : Rp 700 depicting the flying Papilio blumei butterfly

The Peacock or Green Swallowtail (Papilio blumei) is a butterfly of the Papilionidae family. It is found only on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. It is sometimes confused with the more widespread P. palinurus, but that species is smaller and has mostly black tails (in P. blumei, the upper surface of the tails is mostly bluish-green). The wingspan of P. blumei is 120 – 140 mm (4.7–5.5 in). The colors on the wings of some of these butterflies are metallic and are eye catchy especially when viewed from a particular angle.
