100 Years of Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense

The Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense (MZB), with a Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis) as its logo, was initially called in Dutch, Landbouw Zoologisch Laboratorium. It was established as an institute whose main task was to investigate the pests and diseases of economically valuable plats, caused by animals. In its further developments, its tasks also include the inventory and collection of all animal species living in Indonesia.

Love Flora and Fauna 1993 (Regional Identity I)

By the decision of the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia number 46 of the year 1989 and followed by the letter of the aforementioned Minister dated June 2, 1990 number 522.51458.SJ concerning the determination of the Flora and Fauna as Regional Identity, commencing 1993 and each year to come, a series of stamps will be issued with the design of the Flora and Fauna as Regional Identity of each province.
To greet the Love National Flora and Fauna Day on November 5, 1993, the Directorate and General of Posts and Telecommunications issues series of special stamps, which design are Flora and Fauna as Regional Identity of Aceh and North Sumatera Provinces.

Indonesian Art and Culture 1993 (Traditional Dance II)

Indonesia has many different types of traditional dances. In an effort to increase the appreciation of indigenous art and culture, especially traditional dance, since 1992 the Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunication issued a stamp series "Indonesian Art and Culture" with the theme of traditional dances. The second issue in 1993 featuring Gending Sriwijaya dance from South Sumatera, Tempayan dance from West Kalimantan, and Tifa dance from Irian Jaya.

Insect (The Inauguration of Insect Museum at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah)


Indonesia has various kinds of insects, among them there are about 2,500 kinds of butterflies. Ornithoptera goliath is a beautiful and biggest one in the world, its propagation is only in Seram Island and "Vogelkop" area in Irian Jaya Province. In the event of inauguration of Insect Museum at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, on April 20th, 1993, the Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunications issues series of single special stamp "Insect" with specifications :
  • Date of issue : April 20th, 1993
  • Denomination : Rp 1,000 depicting the flying Ornithoptera goliath and other kinds of butterflies

Fauna 1992 (Birds)

In the frame of introducing The Indonesian Birds, on 1st July 1992 The Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunication issues a series of special stamps "Fauna 1992" with the following denomination : Rp 100 (Baligoh Putih or Garrulax leucolophus), Rp 200 (Caladi Kuning or Dinopium javanense), Rp 400 (Enggang Danto or Buceros rhiconeros) and Rp 500 (Aryat Ambon or Alisterus amboinensis).

Flora 1992 (Flower Identity of Indonesia)

Flowers with their beauty could be the source of inspiration. Flowers could be the means to express the feelings that can't be expressed in words. Indonesia, as a tropical country, is very rich in it's many kinds of flowers. Among those various kinds of flowers, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia has chosen three kinds of them as National Flower, Enchantment Flower, and Rare Flower, each for Jasmin (Jasminum sambac), Orchid (Phalaenopsis ambilis B.), and Rafflesia (Rafflesia arnoldii).

Indonesian Art and Culture 1992 (Traditional Dance I)

To increase public appreciation of the arts and culture of Indonesia, starting in 1992 the Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunication issued a stamp series "Indonesian Art and Culture" featuring dances from every province in Indonesia. The first issue of this series featuring Ngremo dance from East Java and Gending Sriwijaya dance from South Sumatera, with a denomination of Rp 200 and Rp 500, respectively. In the first issue of this series, there was a misprint. Misprint occurred on Gending Sriwijaya dance. Images were printed on the stamp is not Gending Sriwijaya dance, but Melinting dance from Lampung. Due to printing errors earlier, stamps with denominations of Rp 500 eventually withdrawn and no longer circulated.

International Conference On The Great Apes Of The World

To promote the world image of Indonesia in the field of conservation of animals and ecosystems, especially the great apes, on 18th - 22th December 1991 in Jakarta and Pangkalan Bun Kalimantan was held an International Conference on The Great Apes of The World. In this connection the Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunications on the 18th December 1991 issues a set of commemorative stamps depicting Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) which live in Sumatera and Kalimantan Island.

Fauna 1989 - Orangutan (WWF series)

As part of an effort to preserve and save Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) - one of the disappearing wild animal in Indonesia - the Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunications, in cooperation with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), issues on 6 March 1989 a set of special stamp series "Fauna 1989". Denomination of this series consists of Rp 75, Rp 100, Rp 140, and Rp 500.

Indonesian Art and Culture 1987 (Traditional Wedding Dress I)

Among various aspects of art and culture in Indonesia there is a feature of traditional wedding dress which is different in each region. The Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunications in its 1987 issue of stamps on "Indonesian Art and Culture" has selected three traditional wedding dresses in East Timor, Aceh, and East Kalimantan respectively.

The Wildlife 1983 (Paradise Birds of Irian Jaya)


The date of issue of this "The Wildlife 1983" series is November 30, 1983. The Wildlife 1983 series of stamps expose three kinds of Paradise Birds which lived in Irian Jaya, i.e. : Cenderawasih belah rotan Waigeo (Waigeo bird of paradise or Diphyllodes respublica), Cenderawasih paruh sabit hitam (Black sickle-billed bird of paradise or Epimachus fastosus), and Cenderawasih paruh sabit coklat (Black-billed Sicklebill or Drepanornis albertisi).

Following the wildlife series issued in 1980, Psittacidae family, in this year issue represented by 3 kind of cockatoo : Rp 75 (Kakatua Putih Besar Jambul Jingga or Cacatua moluccensis), Rp 100 (Kakatua Putih Besar Jambul Kuning or Cacatua galerita galerita), and Rp 200 (Kakatua Raja or Probosciger aterrimus).

The Wildlife 1980 (Lorikeet, Psittacidae)



This Wildlife IV series issued on the 25th of November 1980. There are three denominations : Rp 75 (Nuri Elang or Psittrichas fulgidus), Rp 100 (Nuri Punggung Kuning or Lorius garulla), and Rp 200 (Nuri Dada Merah or Trichoglossus haematodus rubritorquis). In this series, the theme chosen was "Parrot (Psittacidae)".
